Intro to ED is a guide for any doctor starting their first Emergency Medicine rotation as an intern or resident in Australia.
It’s written by me, an Emergency Registrar based in Sydney.
I wrote this blog because Emergency is always a very challenging rotation for junior doctors. You have more autonomy, less direct oversight and are doing more hands-on medicine than you ever have before. It’s a chaotic place and the nurses and doctors working there have many invisible assumptions. Sometimes a simple orientation just doesn’t cut it.
This blog can help you decode the environment, be more efficient and understand the reasoning behind the decisions seniors make. Think of it as a little mentorship session from someone who has gone through it all before.
Start with your Your First Day and Your Second Day to help you understand the space and then explore other topics for how to tackle different presentations.
I would love your feedback to make this blog more useful and I’ll also try to answer any questions you might have - contact me here.
